I love the picture of your building. Ii love the whole concept of what you are doing. We don’t have a very large group of hookers in Boise. I’m 60 and most of them are in my age group. Most are still working full-time. I would love to show the people in my hooking group what you are doing and maybe there might be enough interest. I think I will make a post in the local quilting group’s newsletter as they are much more active and I might be able to find some partners to work with. I am so thrilled that you also share this dream of mine. I taught elementary school for 24 years and miss teaching but now I’d like to teach crafts like hooking , quilting, crocheting and more. I can’t wait to follow all of your developments. If I can help you in anyway especially in suggesting great intoduction to quilting topics. I taught some special ed girls who were in 4th grade to quilt. It went pretty good. Cheryll

    Dear Cheryll
I am so happy to read your message and feel your enthusiasm. You may be surprised to find that there are other rug hookers who share your dream and by asking, they will rise to your challenge. Maybe when we open you can come and spend some time here with us.
I would love to tap into your expertise in teaching children and would appreciate some suggestions of topics that worked for you.
I am 60 also and my partners are all over 60. It’s a great age to venture into something new.
It certainly sounds like you have the passion.
Thanks for visiting the site and thanks for your kind message.

I wish you good things and enjoyment of what you are accomplishing. The building looks great. I wish I could come for your great sounding classes. Do you think you would sell the design kit, even if I can’t come. I am in Northern California. Anyways, We make quality rug hooking frames from repurposed wood. Use the best gripper strips available. And your friends/customers can purchase them for a fraction of the cost and 15% goes to you. Shipping of course is separate. We can Drop ship and we have 5 models to choose from. My husband works in the theater arts department and understands the concept of strength and longevity of items. And he enjoys making them. He does have one of his own designs which brings the frame towards you in an arched position and sit on base which carries a very large work surface. You can see our items on etsy right now as we are working on our website.

Thank you for your time. I would be glad to send you pics also. Ask around about our frames and you will see that they will be a great asset to your supplies.

    Thank you aagain.

Many congratulations! It takes vision, foresight, courage and a little bit of craziness to do what your four are doing, but I know you will be successful! It is wonderful to see an old building transformed into something beautiful, and to see rural communities coming together to preserve not only the “old ways”, but the sense of belonging that goes with mutual creativity. I especially like the fact that the old hall will be a community gathering place, not just a shop. That is very special and just a brilliant concept in this day and age. Sorry to miss the opening but will be home at the end of the month and will drive right over!! Have fun on the 10th!

Just found out about your venture – it looks wonderful! Congratulations on your initiative in bringing this all together.

ADEDA will be facilitating a workshop for artists and crafters through the auspices of the Culture Division of the NS Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage on October 19. This will involve education around exporting arts & crafts, market development and provincial government funding programs. There will be a small fee for participating, which will include lunch. There was a similar, very successful workshop like this held last year in Yarmouth. Keep your calendars open on the 19th – I will be forwarding more information in the next few days. Hopefully several of you hookers will be in attendance.

Hello Leslie, Blaine, Hetty and Ward,

I saw your ad in the Loop and checked out your website. Very nice site, easy to navigate and lots of great pictures to view.

I always thought you guys had enough rugs in those trunks of yours to fill a store! The building looks perfectly wonderful and I wish you all the best in your ventures. I look forward to dropping by when in the area!

    Happy Hooking!

I am soo impressed by your hooked rugs and have always wanted to take classes. My daughter has invited me in the new year to come down and take some classes with her. I can’t wait. By that time I should be finished my quilts. Maybe i could incorporate some designs into the rugs!

On April 16, My husband and I were delighted to attend Heather Gordon’s workshop Hooking with Yarn. Heather was an excellent instructor who gently guided us through the process while sharing her wealth of knowledge and rug hooking stories.
What hospitality we experienced at Moose River Studio! A warm welcome set the tone as did the cup of tea and home -made oatcakes. At noon, with a beautiful table set, we were served a delicious lunch! Such attention to detail is appreciated. The hooked rugs in the studio are beautifully displayed and stunning to view. Congratulations to everyone involved in this venture!
Thank you for a lovely day!
Treat yourself and sign up for a workshop!

    Hi Hettie
I had so much fun visiting your shop this past Canada Day weekend and I’m very pleased with the new pattern I purchased at your shop. Your studio was so interesting and cozy and I’m sure I could have spent hours looking at all the finished rugs. Thanks for all your encouragement!

    Hi Lis
I very much enjoyed meeting you. We have such similar backgrounds.
I hope you will send us a photo of your finished rug and remember, if you and your hooking friends wish to come down for a day, you would be most welcome.

My two 12 year old daughters and I visited your wonderful studio late July and could have stayed for hours but had to be else where so we couldn’t stay as long as we would have liked. We are back to school now and into a routine again and both my daughter and I have started the rugs for the pattern we bought at the store and both are progressing quite nicely!! Just wish I was closer as I am running out of the wool!!! The cutter we bought is fantastic!!

    Hi Hetti,
We were pleasantly surprised with your beautiful space when we visited last month. I bought some of the roving wool that was in the small crib and have finished a small mat.The wool worked out very good. The show was great and I am pleased that you are going to keep my rug “Disappointment” on the wall. Hope we get some interest. Do you need a photo to add to the page above or do you take your own? I hope we can visit the studio again soon. I`ll bring my lunch and just stay for the day!
    Best to you all
    Mary Smith
